The hollow handle and curved shape allow the shovel to be easily cleaned.

The Ribs

The ribs allow kids to explore different textures.

The Mold

Modeled directly from an oak leaf found in Fort Greene Park, this simple mold provides some structure for the material.

The Stylus

During the workshop, I notices people using the ribs to either smooth or draw in the surface of the material. I designed the styles to facilitate that with a flat edge for smoothing and a tapered end for drawing.
